"Weather report" (a string of haiku)

One of the summer prompts from Margo Roby (Wordgathering) is to write an "imagistic poem" or a string of poems of about twenty lines.  I don't know if haiku qualifies, but that's what I've written: a string of haiku.  We had an interesting night a little while ago: a couple tornadoes came quite close.  So, here's my "weather report."

Heat, humidity
Afternoon has sticky breath
Tornado threatens

Rain comes pouring down
Streams wash away the topsoil
A wall of water

Lightening through the sky
Bouts of thunder shake the world
Trees bend in the wind

 ...

The rain is steady
Thunder rolls are vague, distant
The wind is dying

Carry the night watch
Mother Nature has mood swings
Humans do not sleep

Give in to fatigue
Whatever happens - happens
Sound of the rainfall

...

The air is washed clean
Birds go about their business
No trace of the storm

The Happy Amateur

  1. Weather and haiku do suit each other. I love the compact expression of all the different parts.

    1. I wasn't sure if haiku may be described as an imagistic poem, but on the other hand: why not? :-)
      Thank you for visiting, Margo.

  2. Been through that storm before, and yes,at some point you just have to go to bed. Love the middle line of the first haiku.
