"A Ghost of May" (poem)

A prompt from We Write Poems:  Bedtime Tales

~A Ghost of May ~

A long time ago
And far, far away
There lived a young princess,
As lovely as May.

She lived in a castle
Atop a large hill,
Her life was so peaceful,
So pleasantly still…

And yet she felt longing,
Grew thinner by day,
What was it she wanted?
She just couldn’t say.

She’d sit by her window,
And silently cry,
And watch as the clouds
And moments went by.

One day a young prince from
The Foreigners’ Land
Arrived at the castle
And asked for her hand.

The prince was so charming
And loved her so well,
Her sadness and worry
He vowed to dispel,

“Together from here
At dawn we shall ride,
Please tell me, my princess,
You will be my bride!”

She loved the prince dearly,
But said ‘no’ still -
She stayed in her castle
Atop a large hill.

She sat by her window,
And looked at the view,
Away brushed a tear,
And mouthed, “I love you…”

I’ve gone to that castle,
Myself I have seen
Her sit there longing
For what may have been.

"I'll Believe It When..." (poem)

Poetic Asides: "For this week’s prompt, take the phrase “I’ll Believe It When (blank),” replace the blank with a word or phrase, make the new phrase the title of your poem, and then write your poem."

I left the blank part blank.

~ I’ll Believe It When… ~

When I perceive music as an assortment of decibels
When the palette of the morning is reduced to one color
When I attribute that look to the mixture of pheromones
When I deny the miracle imprinted on a child’s face -
Then I’ll believe it. I’ll believe that there’s no God.

"She" (poem)

A writing prompt from Poetic Bloomings:

"Parallelogram de Crystalline is a poetry form created by Karan Naidu. This form consists of 4 verses of 3 lines each. The syllable count for each stanza is 3, 6, 9. In this style of poem, the beauty of a person is usually compared with nature and described in those terms…"

~ She ~

Like the moon
She is distant and still
Solemnly guarding the misty sky

Like the sun
She is rising again
Shining its mercy on all that lives

Like the rain
She is steady and cool
Washing my face and consumed by earth

Like the wind
She is passing me through
Tracing my soul with a last good bye

"Search" (poem)

Prompt #98 from We Write Poems:  Signs

~ Search ~

A sign

In the sky

A whispering why?

A sigh of the wind

Turning over

The pages

Of ages

Glimpses of truth

Youth’s phantom dancer

Words under breath

Death

Answer?

"Homecoming" (wordle poem)

The Sunday Whirl:

~ Homecoming ~

When solitude drives you insane,
Carry on singing:
Rejection is inherent
To life’s drama.

When it pushes you to the limit,
Keep on going,
Ignore the foul play
Of glad-handers.

Follow my voice, not their gestures,
I will guide you back
Through the dim hallways,
Beyond the past echoes,

Beyond the previous pain of your own
Delivery -
To the source of truth
And acceptance.

"Parting" (poem)

A prompt from Carry on Tuesday # 149

This week  I've taken the first few words of Robert Louis Stevenson's sweet poem My Shadow as our inspiration

I have a little shadow

~ Parting ~

A distant star, a song,
And morning dew -
That’s how little
I have left of you.

A weeping shadow of
A willow tree -
That’s how little
I have left of me.

"One, Two, Three - God I See" (poem)

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Wrote a poem for my tomorrow's CLOW class (Children's Liturgy of the Word.)

Fourth Sunday of Lent        John 3:14-21

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son”

 ~ One, Two, Three – God I See ~

God is three, God is one,
Unto us came God’s son.

Jesus – God – pure and kind,
Healed the sick, cured the blind,

God’s light shone, made them see:
God is one, God is three.

Father, Son, Spirit – God,
When you ask, we shall nod,

“Yes,” we’ll say, “we choose light
Over blindness and night,

We shall not follow sin,
We shall keep faith within,

It will show us the way,”
This is what we shall say.

And so happy he’ll be –
Our God – one, and three.

Blogger tag!

Janet has tagged me in blogger tag!
I’m “it”!  So, here I go…

The Rules Are:

1. You must post the rules.
2. Post 11 fun facts about yourself.
3. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, and then create 11 more to ask the ones you tag.
4. Tag however many bloggers you wish.
5. Let them know they are tagged.
6. Have fun!!

11 fun facts about me:

1.       I’m just learning how to drive.
2.      I think I have what they call ‘geographical dyslexia.’
3.      I hate shopping.
4.      My hunches are usually pretty good.
5.      A bad dream can ruin my whole day.
6.      I can wiggle my ears and raise one brow.
7.      I’ve finally figured out what I want to be when I grow up: a writer.
8.      I love to-do lists.
9.      I love very hot tea with lemon and sugar all year round.
10.  I get uncontrollable giggle spells occasionally.
11. I’m writing a middle-grade novel!

My answers to Janet’s questions:

1.   What is your first memory as a small child?

I’ve been remembering more and more lately.  Things I didn’t know I remembered, come back to me, detailed and vivid, as if they happened only yesterday.  I clearly remember, for instance, sitting in my crib, my soft blue-white checked blanket at my side, I’m looking through the wooden bars, and chewing on a piece of a light-green rubber tube (a homemade teething device)  I was quite young as you can imagine!

2.   What do you like to 'sneak' when no one is looking?

Chips.

3.   What is your favorite 'writing snack'?

When I write, I tend to forget to eat, so when I start getting dizzy, I just grab a quick bite –  a toast, some crackers, etc. and go back to writing.  Not very healthy, I know…

4.   Who is your hero?

I cannot say that I have a hero, but I respect and admire a lot of people.  As a Christian, I try to remind myself that I should aspire to be like Jesus – a goal that, I feel, is completely out of my reach, but ultimately, yes – Jesus is my hero, and my destination.

5.   What is your favorite kind of footwear?

I love my slippers!

6.   When did you realize you NEED to write?

Three years ago.

7.   Who is your best friend?

My family is, in its indivisibility.  Also, Anne Tyler (too bad she doesn’t know I exist…)

8.   What is your favorite color to wear?

It might sound strange, but I think I’m most happy in black.

9.   Do you have a favorite TV show?

I like the oldies: “The Twilight Zone,” “The Honeymooners,” “The Addams Family.”  When we lived in Prague, I used to watch “Everybody Loves Raymond” in Czech!  I enjoyed it.

10.                If you were stranded on an island who would you like to be stranded with?

Somebody who’d know how to get us out of there!

11.                What inspires you to write more than anything?

I cannot single out one thing… I guess, life inspires me.  And writing itself – the kick I get out of it – is an inspiration.

11 questions for you:

1.      Do you give yourself enough credit?
2.      What is your biggest hope?
3.      Are you an early bird or a night owl when it comes to writing?
4.      What are you most proud of?
5.      What gives you shivers?
6.      Do you believe there’s something more to coincidences?
7.      Would you like to be a space tourist?
8.      Do you fly in your dreams?
9.      Are you a “cat person” or a “dog person”?
10.  Do you edit your writing before posting it on your blog?
11. What do you want to be when you grow up?

I tag YOU! (No pressure to join in the game :-) )
