Seize the Day

'Carry on Tuesday' blog had a writing prompt: the first line of a poem by Robert H Smith entitled 'The Clock of Life.'  Here is the line: The clock of life is wound but once.  Below is my attempt.

The
Clock of
Life is wound
But once, so come
And seize the day, for
No one escapes life’s
Heartless chiming:
Going…Going…
Gone.

This is actually a quote from a poem I wrote earlier, responding to two prompts from Poetic Asides.  The first one was a hay(na)ku with an 'escape' theme.  The second prompt read: While you were gone.  Here is my poem:

While
You were
Gone, your seven-year-old
Niece
Became a
Beautiful young woman.
Grandma
Died. You
Never said goodbye.
Parents
Grew shorter,
Older, more fragile.
There
Is no
Time to lose.
Come,
Carpe diem,
No one escapes
Life's
Heartless chiming:
Going...Going...Gone.

Live for the Love of it,
The Happy Amateur
