Christmas

No angels, no trumpets
No marvelous light
A flickering candle
Amidst the cold night
A rickety shelter
A mind not at rest
A weary mother
A babe at her breast
A desperate whisper
Be it unto me
The wood of the manger
The wood of the tree

"Like shepherds of the bygone days..." (poem)

Nativity of Christ

Like shepherds of the bygone days
We heed the Angel from on high —
Our pastures left in disarray
As Bethlehem is drawing nigh

Like ancient Kings we scan the skies
Pack gold, and frankincense, and myrrh —
Unguarded our own kingdoms lie
As King of Kings descends on Earth

Like toddlers on our knees we fall
Inside the cave where in the calm
All sheep, all pastures, kingdoms all
The newborn child holds in his palm

Merry Christmas

...that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow...

Much Mistletoe

My son put "a picture of Santa with Mrs. Claus" on his Christmas list. Santa delivered, as always.

He used an older pic of himself with his Mrs. printed on a penny Whitney Worcester Mass. postcard.

Would love to learn more about the postcard. If you have any info (the artist? the year?), please share.

Thank you very much!

"when the darkness is heavy"

soft rose petals fall
caress the face of the earth
she has no tears left

when the worlds crumble
when the darkness is heavy
when all the words fail

rose candles stand tall
the baby will be born soon
he will cry for us

Homecoming

We, the shepherds, we, the kings

We, divine and earthly things

We have come a long long way

We have found our home today

Here, amidst the dark of night

Here, beneath the simple light

Here, beside the helpless child

In his palm and mercy mild

Christmas Wish (Sonnetina Tre)

Christmas Wish

“I feel no Christmas,” cried a little girl,
“I don’t feel any of the Christmas cheer…
The tree is up and lit, the garlands swirl,
And Rudolph leads his pack of swift reindeer,

But I feel nothing,” sobbing would not cease.
Old Santa hugged her, “Don’t be sad, my dear,
They are not always real – the things one sees,
What’s real is hidden from the eye, but near.

So close your eyes, put on your largest grin,
Unlock your heart and let your Christmas in.”
