A prompt from We Write Poems: Bedtime Tales
~A Ghost
of May ~
A long
time ago
And far,
far away
There
lived a young princess,
As lovely
as May.
She lived
in a castle
Atop a
large hill,
Her life
was so peaceful,
So
pleasantly still…
And yet
she felt longing,
Grew
thinner by day,
What was
it she wanted?
She just
couldn’t say.
She’d sit
by her window,
And
silently cry,
And watch
as the clouds
And
moments went by.
One day a
young prince from
The
Foreigners’ Land
Arrived at
the castle
And asked
for her hand.
The prince
was so charming
And loved
her so well,
Her
sadness and worry
He vowed
to dispel,
“Together
from here
At dawn we
shall ride,
Please
tell me, my princess,
You will
be my bride!”
She loved
the prince dearly,
But said ‘no’
still -
She stayed
in her castle
Atop a
large hill.
She sat by
her window,
And looked
at the view,
Away
brushed a tear,
And
mouthed, “I love you…”
I’ve gone
to that castle,
Myself I
have seen
Her sit
there longing
For what may
have been.
Live for
the Love of it,
The Happy
Amateur
