A SONG FOR EMILY

You walk down the aisle in your red sleeveless dress
As you walked down the beach by the water
She joins hands with him, and true love they profess
And you’re shielding your eyes
From the light and surprise
As you’re trying to see past the altar

Emily
The future’s hard to see
Across the sparkling sea
Beyond the rising tide
The daughter of the bride

You hold a bouquet and your beautiful life
Golden sunbeams are tied in your hair
They kiss, and the pastor says, “husband and wife”
And you fear it won’t stand
Your strong fort in the sand
As you think ‘bout the old yester year

Emily
The past is memory
Your kite is soaring free
The ribbons come untied
The daughter of the bride

You’re leaving the chapel, folks smile from each pew
As you tread on the rose petals softly
All eyes are on her, and all eyes are on you
And you don’t feel the same
And the world calls your name
As you wonder if this is it maybe?

Emily
The now’s for you and me
This day’s eternity
You take it in wide-eyed
The daughter of the bride

Live for the Love of it,
