You can collect a lot of seeds from just one pod. How many? I imagine the number will vary, but it'll still be pretty high. I opened up one average size pod today, and there they were -- 53 seeds!

wow! incredible. imagine if they blew about like dandelions seeds..h-m-m-m! I wonder how many seeds are on a dandelion 'head';-)
ReplyDeleteI hear they can be self-sowing. I hope I'll get a few "volunteer marigolds" next year. :)
DeleteAh I was about 20 short. I haven't counted the Gerber Daisy head yet - reminds me a bit of a sunflower...too many to count :)
ReplyDeleteYou were pretty close, though :) Maybe another pod will contain the number you predicted, I'm sure they aren't all the same. Anyway, we're talking dozens of seeds in a single pod -- impressive!
DeleteThe seeds that aren't 'humanly' harvested are gifted back to the animals. I'm sure it would take dozens of those little seeds to fill bird bellies :)
DeleteThat old lesson; produce many seeds because only a very few may really survive.
