A Sonnet for the Mutt of My Life 

I would be cunning if I were to say,

“A purebred dog has no appeal at all,

I’ll never set my eyes on those not stray

full-bellied pups that know ‘eat, play, and fall

asleep,’ their mother always by their side;

I won’t accept a poodle or bichon

frise as my companion.” Yet, I pride

myself on meeting you, for you have shone–

since that first time at Petco–love and trust

on me. You have no other purpose save

to make me happy. It is only just

I kiss your nose, and give you treats you crave:

for no bichon or poodle will compare

to you, my dearest mutt, so pure and fair.

The year is young, beginnings abound, T.H.A. is in dire need of renewal, Atlanta is foggy, and Wikipedia turns fourteen today.  So, I come up with…

SWINGING
"Fog is a collection of liquid water droplets or ice crystals suspended in the air at or near the Earth's surface."

She swings, her long body

elongating even more

as, coming towards him,

she leans back, laughing,

eyes closed, neck curved,

blood rushing to her head,

her bare feet kicking the sky.

She climbs to the peak

and, reaching it, she stops,

breathless, translucent

like a sunray, or wind,

or a droplet of water,

suspended in the air

near the Earth’s surface.

The swings exhale,

and, lassoed by gravity,

she falls, surrendering,

letting go of the ropes,

leaning in, eyes fixed on him,

as she moves further away,

into the morning fog.

Happy Birthday, Wikipedia

Wikipedia turns fourteen today. 

Since “Wikipedia is written largely by amateurs,” it is fit T.H.A. sends a birthday greeting.

Many happy returns of the day to the free spirit!  Let it remain ever growing, ever changing, imperfect, striving, downright weird and Wicked good!

Although fine “research tools beyond Google and Wikipedia” do exist, Wikipedia is still going strong.

As of 18:36, 15 January 2015 (UTC) English Wikipedia has 4,695,562 content articles. Go explore.
