Weekly Wikems. Sun.

Hi, everyone.

Another Thursday. Time for another wikem. (The 'wikem rules' are here.)

Spring is coming. The days are getting longer. And the rays of one hot star sure feel nice.

Let's honor the Sun today:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun

Go explore. Find your quote. Write your poem.

Here's my wiki limerick ('wikimerick'? :-):

"The Sun is roughly middle age and has not changed dramatically for four billion years, and will remain fairly stable for four billion more."

When it comes to our years, there's no quota.

When we're down, at the Sun we look oughta -

Middle-aged in the blink

Of an eye...but (wink-wink)

With each billion it only gets hotter!

And one more sunny wikem:

cut her some slack please –
– she is in the midst of confusion...
the fusion burning her core, what more can she give?
forgive her, she’s finished, gone, shone far too long, o’er the hill…
still, look for her in the morn – reborn, a dazzling surprise, she’ll rise.

Thank you for reading :-)
Looking forward to your poems!

2014 November PAD Chapbook Challenge: Day 1

Robert Lee Brewer, "For today's prompt, write a game over poem."

A "game over" limerick:

Fall has finally caught up with summer
A hot weather girl frowns, “It’s a bummer”
It has been a good game
Autumn wins all the same
Toast the winner, come fill up that rummer!

Happy Hour: "Bowl Trouble" (limerick)

More on Kyle and his Pup. :-)

"They moved my bowl."

~ Bowl Trouble ~

- Pudel said you can heal a dog’s soul…

Tell me, doc, am I losing my role?

Kyle is not so bad,

But he sure got me mad,

When he – listen to this! – moved my bowl!

- Things are not all that grave on the whole,

Though Kyle is attempting the role

Of the alpha, you’re right,

I will help you to fight

For what’s yours.  Man will not move your bowl!

Happy Hour: "Homo sapiens...?"

The other day our dog tried to get us to do something for quite a while (as we realized later.)  When we finally got it - threw his blanket on the couch, so he could curl next to us - he gave out an especially long sigh.  I wonder what he was thinking...

"It's not going to throw itself."

Homo sapiens, they say?... I don’t know…

How sapiens can be so slow?

I’ll keep nudging the ball,

Like it’s nothing at all,

Till he gets through his head: he should throw.

'Merciful Pup'

You might remember my limerick about a merry chap Kyle and his not-so-happy dog that one day teaches him a lesson:

~Every Dog Has His Day~
There once lived a merry chap Kyle,
Had a doggy that never did smile.

There and back in the blink
Of an eye, “Where’s my drink?”

Kyle is sad, but his dog’s got a smile.

I remembered Kyle and his pup, too, and decided to pick up where we left off:

"Well, I think you're wonderful."

~Merciful Pup~

He, who once was a merry chap Kyle,
Has been sad for a very long while,

So, his pup shows him mercy:
Pours him gin, puts on Purcell,

Wails for him, “Shall your cares beguile!”

We'll see if we have an update on Kyle and his pup next Thursday :-)

Eat, Drink, And Be Merry!

'A Toast'
With this really long holiday
We get pleasantly plump, as they say...
So what?  Let’s be merry!
Pass the cake!  Pour some sherry!
What the heck!  Let us live for today!

'Good Intentions'

Last week's prompt from Mad Kane was As the New Year approaches, men (gals) swear...

'Good Intentions'

As the New Year approaches, men swear
To do better.  It’s only fair,
But we all know too well
‘Bout that road to hell -
What it’s paved with…so, better beware!

I sure am prolific! I wish they were terrific... (More Limericks)

In response to a limerick writing prompt from Mad Kane.  This week's opening line is,
A fellow (woman) who'd stepped on some toes...

A fellow who’d stepped on some toes,
Confessed to his spouse of his woes,
“They think I aint sweet,
But I just got big feet!”
“Oh, yes! And a really big nose!”

A fellow who’d stepped on some toes
Received a big punch on the nose.
In business folklore -
As in love, or in war -
Things get bloody, and anything goes.

A woman who’d stepped on some toes
Recorded the shrieks.  Recompose
This tape helps her now:
When she’s down somehow,
She plays it, and blooms like a rose.

A fellow who’d stepped on some toes
Tried super hard not to disclose
The steps that he took,
But he was on Facebook,
And so the whole world knows.

A fellow who’d stepped on some toes
Retorted, “How else you suppose
A loser like I
Can ever get by?
Grow up! This is life, and its prose."

A woman who'd stepped on some toes
Found it hard to maintain a cool pose,
When youngsters galore
Got a foot in the door,
Whereas she got veins varicose.

More Limericks? Yes!

This is rapidly turning into a limerick blog...  The 'box theme' is in response to a Wednesday prompt from Poetic Asides.  Here I go:

'Boxed In'

A heavy weight champion Gox
Once tried to think out of the box:
He went, 'Peace and love...'
While unlacing his glove,
But a whack knocked him out of his socks.

A tiny and fragile Miss Ox
Has lived all her life in a box.
She let no one in,
And kept everything clean,
And she never did get chicken pox.

It's Limerick Time...Again!

 'Twists of Fate'

A woman was planning to back
A fellow who called himself Jack,
But (what a sly fox!)
When she peeped in the box,
He popped out, and gave her a smack!

A woman was planning to back
A hunter who launched an attack,
But no such luck:
She was hit by a duck
That fell from the sky with a 'quack!'

It's Limerick Time! 'On Loyalty'

On a quite different - limerick - note: this week's writing prompt from Mad Kane reads, 'a woman (a fellow) was planning to back...'  Here's a couple of limericks from me under a common title.

'On Loyalty'

A woman was planning to back
Her man who was clearly a wrack,
"For better, for worse...
But vows disperse...
Oh, well," and she went off to pack.

A fellow was planning to back
His gal who was clearly a wrack,
"For her I would die,"
He said with a sigh,
"Alas, she was bad in the sack."

Lawful Love

I am so lucky.  I love my mother-in-law.  I respect her, I admire her, I like her.  But, above all, I just love her.  And I’ll tell you more: she loves me!
Here’s a limerick-toast to our great relationship:

I declare, elated with glee,
“Mom-in-law, I so deeply love thee!”
And envision my joy,
When she tells me (oh, boy!)
That she really, truly loves me!
